I interned at
OPAC in July of 2023. I went in, not knowing what to expect as this was my
first ever internship. Higuchi san was kind enough to offer a position to me
although I had no prior experience and I am grateful to him and the team for their kindness and
patience as they introduced me to the world of international non profits
and their global goals. Even though I lacked experience, I was given responsibilities
that included proof reading English documents, editing videos as well as
learning the important art of shredding papers. Joking aside, I couldn’t
have asked for a better introduction to “work” through my internship at
OPAC.
The highlight of my internship was the opportunity to help in a forum
for high school students in Okinawa and other Asian countries where I gained
valuable insight through exchange of thoughts and views of other high school
students like myself.
Aside from work, the advantages of an internship in Okinawa is of course
the location. While in Okinawa, I had the chance to learn about the unique
and complicated history of the region, the delicious food, and even participated
in a practice basket ball game with one of the highest ranking high school
in Okinawa.
Amongst the many highlights from my experience, the most memorable for
me was how everyone at OPAC warmly welcomed me and immediately made me
a part of their family. I look forward to fostering this relationship and plan to visit them whenever
I return to Okinawa. There are many reasons to visit Okinawa but for me,
OPAC will be one of the best reasons.
Thank you very much for this wonderful chance to intern at your organization!
